Our academy’s foundation was built with a strong commitment to rural education and serving our local community.
SCA is a PreK-8 public school authorized by the University of Southern Indiana.
-
Mission
To instill education in an innovative manner, honor rural opportunities and responsibilities, serve as a model for others, and develop servant leaders with a passion for lifelong learning
-
Vision
Create and maintain small, vibrant schools in our communities which serve as hubs for community activities in addition to providing a rural, place based, world class education
What Makes Us Different
The outdoor classroom is the perfect place to pique a child's curiosity and help them discover the bigger ecological picture. By supporting our primary curriculum with Outdoor Adventures, students will enjoy a more engaging classroom and enjoy experiences not commonly found in other schools.
Rural Classroom.
Students will participate in challenging STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) projects. From building structures with jelly beans to making flutes from straws, simple exercises can reinforce big ideas while being lots of fun!
Steam Projects.
Student Portfolio.
We strongly believe in strengthening our students' character by combining community engagement and academic learning. Each student will have a record that documents not only their scholastic achievements, but how they’ve helped their community through projects. Reviewing portfolios with families will help us build a habit of positive growth for our students.
We understand that students’ educational needs are different and all must be guided toward subject mastery and enabled to perform. As students master a subject, they will receive increasingly advanced material. We will also give targeted instruction to those who need additional assistance.
Tailored Education.
An important part of lifelong learning is the ability and willingness to read a wide variety of texts. We're excited to help students better define and understand their own principles through the study of diverse subject matter. Students will leave our care with a selection of written materials.
Personal Library.
House systems serve as a family-like environment and positive reinforcement to decrease bullying. Comprised of both staff and students across multiple grades, students will retain their same house for the entire duration of their time at SCA. Through weekly house meetings, students will be given opportunities to develop leadership skills while creating an inclusive environment.
